What the rain percentage actually means
The National Weather Service defines probability of precipitation as the likelihood that a point will receive a measurable amount of precipitation during a specified period. A 40% chance of rain does not mean rain for 40% of the day, nor does it automatically mean 40% of the region will be wet.

- probability tells you how likely measurable precipitation is
- amount tells you how much may fall
