Field, inspection, safety, and hazardous environment robotics
Nuclear Decommissioning Robots
Nuclear decommissioning robots put cameras, sensors or tools into areas where personnel exposure must be controlled. The robot's mobility, radiation tolerance and retrieval plan need separate assessment. A general inspection platform is not automatically qualified for every nuclear environment.
How these robots work
Boston Dynamics lists nuclear decommissioning among Spot's inspection applications. For a proposed mission, specify the instrument, radiation conditions, communication path and physical access. Work planning must include what happens when the machine stops inside the area.
Examples and applications
- Remote inspection platforms
- Tracked sensor carriers
- Manipulators for hazardous-area work
What to check for the intended task
- Check qualification for the expected dose, contamination and environment.
- Define cable, communication and power-loss behavior.
- Plan retrieval and handling of contaminated equipment before entry.
